I LOVE white sheets.  They just feel so luxurious.  The only thing I don’t like about white sheets, they seem to go yell0w and it’s hard to get them clean.  What’s a girl to do???

BLEACH: No way! I don’t like the smell of bleach. Not to mention, bleach completely degrades the fibres of the cotton sheets over time.

So what to do?

I had  a really bad yellowing problem with sheets, and I discovered Borax (20 Mule Borax).  The recipe is as follows:

put your white sheets into the washer

1/2 cup Borax (into the laundry tub of the washer, not the dispenser)

Wash as you normally would.

They should come out beautiful and white.

So for the issue I had, they were REALLY yellow!  The yellow was from the oils from the skin and head.    I soaked my sheets in hot water, with a dissolved mixture of:

1/2 cup Borax

a few good squirts of Dish soap – breaks down the grease

and a cup of wash detergent – your usual brand

I soaked overnight.  Then, I washed on the hot cycle.

They came out beautiful, clean and WHITE again!

One other tidbit, is that I used white vinegar for the rinse cycle. It makes the clothes soft and fresh ( no vinegar smell!).

Let me know if this works for you!
